Amsterdam/Copenhagen, 25 July 2008 – The Z-Wave Alliance Unplug Fest 2008 has been a total success: 30 new Z-Wave products were successfully tested during the two-day event, which took place in Amsterdam. These products will soon reach the European market for cable-free home-networking, bringing the number of European certified Z-Wave products up to 75 with a total count of certified products to over 300 worldwide.

The Z-Wave Alliance regularly holds Developers Forums and UnPlug Fests as benefit to its members. The Developers Forum provides an opportunity for Alliance members to be briefed on the latest additions to the Z-Wave technology and to provide feedback for the Zensys technology development team for future releases. Furthermore, the Unplug Fest serves as a platform for testing product interoperability of released and soon to be released products.

At this 12th running of the event, 27 participants from 11 different manufacturers discussed the future development processes of the Z-Wave technology. 30 new home control devices, based on the Z-Wave standard, were tested and found to have a high degree of interoperability and readiness for marketing. The manufacturers reported neither any compatibility problems among the new products nor between the new products and older devices already available on the market.

Interoperability as the key

A hallmark of the Z-Wave technology is the ability of the Z-Wave products to work or interoperate with each other. By merely selecting products that are certified as Z-Wave interoperable, the consumer can build customized solutions that are quick to install, certified to work and can be integrated into an existing home network. This interoperability is made possible by the technological innovation of the Z-Wave Chip and assured through a strict product certification and logo program.

Effective strategy for Europe

“The Unplug-Fest has once again shown that products built upon the Z-Wave wireless home control standard are suitable for immediate, problem-free use in home networks. The standard, combined with events like the UnPlug Fests and the Z-Wave Certification Programs, helps us ensuring consumers can be certain that with Z-Wave they are choosing the right technology when it comes to installing a reliable standard solution for all wireless automation applications in the home. The increasing number of Z-Wave Alliance members and products worldwide plus the global acceptance of the Z-Wave standard make us confident that Z-Wave will continue to lead the growing European home control market”, explained Mark Walters, Vice President of the Z-Wave Alliance.
